Considering CHU?
Welcome to the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Chung Hua University! If you are prospect high-school students who are interested in studying English language and literature, the following admission information and department profile can give you an overall picture of how to prepare for your admission.

1. You can find a brief history of our department at ‘About us’.
2. You should explore our academic programs.
3. Why is the Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures at Chung Hua University your best choice?

  •   In order to lay a solid foundation for your English proficiency, all the oral communication courses are taught in a small group of 20 to 25 students by qualified native speakers of English. English writing courses, also taught in a small group of 20 to 25 students, are required from freshmen to junior. At the same time, translation courses are required for juniors and seniors.
  •   In addition to core courses related to literature, linguistics, and language teaching, students are offered and encouraged to master another specialty except language competence. Many hard-working students are taking business management, tourism, and administration management certificate programs, hoping to gain a competitive edge over their rivals in the job hunting.
  •   In order to broaden students’ vision, all students are required to take at least 8-credit second foreign languages from Japanese, French, or Spanish. Students are also required to take one of the standardization tests – iBT, GEPT, IELTS, or TOEIC – to meet the English Proficiency Validation standard set by the department.
